We stayed up at Janet's house for a few days since we could actually light and see fireworks. We have nowhere to light them down in Provo, and I sure as heck wasn't paying a fortune to go to the stadium of fire to see the Provo fireworks. Maybe if they actually had a performer I wanted to see, but I didn't really have a desire to go see Miley Cyrus surrounded by a bunch of little girls. On Saturday, we filled up the pool in the morning and it was warm by the afternoon. The kids had a blast! There is actually a sprinkler attached to the pool, but they don't like it on because the water is cold. We only turned it on a few times. Erik was practicing going underwater and blowing bubbles. Yay for swimming lessons! Lily was trying it to, but when she went under, none of her face made it into the water. She was funny though! Daniel even splashed with them a little bit.
Lily spent about half of the outside time riding around on her motorcycle. She loves riding this bike because she can actually use the pedals. She doesn't have to push herself with her feet anymore. She can even steer while pedaling, most of the time. She was pretty funny because she would run into things on purpose and laugh. I guess we'll be getting her a bike for Christmas.
This is how we play in the water at our house...it's a bit different than what we got to do up at Grandma's house. We bought that alligator pool when we were up in Salt Lake. Down here in Provo, we only have this little outdoor space, with no shade, that is right on State Street. We also have to share the yard with other kids. The girl in the pink lives downstairs. She is Lily's age. They also have a boy a bit younger than Erik, but he's off running around. We don't like letting them play with the neighbors too much because they learn some not so great actions after being around them for awhile. This is also one of the reasons we didn't want to set up a pool outside. The other reason we didn't buy one sooner is we don't really have anywhere to store it. Guess we'll have to figure that out. Anyway, the kids had fun just dipping their heads in this bucket of water. So easily amused!
Here is Lily with the remnant of a party popper being used as hair accessories. She liked pulling the poppers, even though they were a bit loud. She's one crazy girl!

This was Erik's first experience with sparklers...he looks thrilled.
This was half of our fourth of July party. This is Sharie, David (my brother) and Lily of course. The other half was Erik, Daniel, and myself. We had a barbecue and lit some of our own fireworks. We lit ours when it was still light. Everytime a loud one, such as the whistling ones or fountains that made loud popping noises, went off Lily would come running back to me with a slightly worried look on her face. I kept telling her it was ok. She would watch, just a bit warily. However, we did go over to the high school to watch the big fireworks. We got there about 9:00, but the show didn't actually start until 10:00. The hour we spent waiting was rough because the kids were starting to get tired. They wanted to run around, which was ok as long as they ran around our blanket. When they started running down the hill toward State Street I made them sit down. They just got really restless. Next year we'll know not to get to the show quite so early. Once the big fireworks started they were ok, but there were a few times Lily told me they were too loud. Those are my favorite ones! After the 20 minute show was over, we took the kids home and put them to bed. This was the second night in a row they went to bed just after 11:00.We had a fun weekend and hope everyone else did too!
