Butterfly Pavilion

Posing as butterflies

Saturday we decided to take the kids to the Butterfly Pavilion, since Erik has been asking to go for awhile now. They have displays of insects, spiders, beetles and sea animals. We were actually able to touch some starfish and crabs. Even Drew liked this, although I think he just liked playing in the water. Then they have a big "jungle" room and there are TONS of butterflies just flying around. The kids loved it. I'll admit that it was pretty cool. It was funny watching people flinch as butterflies flew at their faces. A few kids even had butterflies land on them. Drew wasn't sure what to think. He thought it was neat and wanted to touch them, but he was also a bit nervous around all those butterflies. He did like watching the turtles swim in the water though. One kid, who seemed to be unsupervised for awhile, kept picking up the butterflies with his finger....even though there are multiple signs that say "Even though it may be tempting, please don't touch the butterflies as it shortens their lifespans." Apparently we taste gross to them! There were some BEAUTIFUL butterflies, but of course the few we really wanted pictures of wouldn't stay still long enough to snap a picture. We will definitely go back again!!
